zf manual trans
Has any body ever had a leak at the top of the transmission where the stick goes into the top?
A mech at an RV dealer drove my truck the other day and when I got in to drive it I noticed transmission fluid was on the square plastic molding that holds the large rubber boot and screws to the floor board. Pretty juicy and red colored. The rubber cover has not been attached for months since the clutch was replaced over 4000 miles ago. I'm guessing he had trouble findin the gears or something
. I had to drive about 600 miles with a about 4,000lbs in the bed and towed a small boat and smelled transmission fluid the whole way. I never did see anymore fluid come out.
Being paranoid as I am, every 150 miles or so I would stop and check the fluid level but it never needed any as fluid would run out the hole every time I checked it.
Anyway its a 1999 F-350 PSD DRW ZF manual not sure if it is the 5 speed or 6 speed . It has L- 1- 2- 3- 4- OD .
One more thing the would it be advisable to install a temp gauge for the transmission? Can these manuals get overheated like the automatics I've read about?
Thanks for any advice or help in advance
Jim
