Need Advice

I have a 2001 F150, 5.4L. 4X4. When the truck is cold, it will start but it then dies immediately. If I idle it high for about 30 seconds, the truck runs great. There are no other problems. The check engine light does not come on, so there are no codes to retrieve. I was thinking it might be the Coolant Temp. Sensor. However, I can't find the darn thing. It's not where the Hanes manual shows. Anyone know where it is? Secondly, any other advice on what to check?

Thanks in advance!

If the truck will start and run if the accelerator pedal is pressed, even slightly, then that is a tipoff that the IAC (Idle Air Control) valve is either dead or internally clogged with carbon deposits. They can temporarily come back to life when the engine warms up. Do a site search on IAC replacement. It's a DIY if you are fairly handy.

I agree with PaulC. I have a 99 F150 4x4 and it did the exact same thing in the cold weather. I went and got a new IAC and it fixed it. It fires up good now in the cold. They aren't too hard to change out either.
