header question
what would be the best header for a 97 250HD w/ 5 spd manual 460? i've seen some people suggest L&L but on the site it says their ultra flow headers aren't for straight axle. also, what happens if you run an engine with no headers at all? i don't know much about engines, so i'm just curious. also, how hard is it to install headers? does the engine have to be removed? thanks.

I have the L&L headers on my 460 and they are great headers. I would call them I think that they do make them for the solid axle might have to order them for a F-350 since they had solid axles on them. Hope this helps some.

For your 460, I found you don't have a whole wealth of choices for headers but you do have some of a selection. A lot of the info comes from people who have the 460 pushing a motorhome. Also, from my understanding if you run an engine without any headers or exhaust manifolds, it will end up exposing your hot valves to cold air resulting in warped valves. Although, I wouldn't think a minute or so would hurt and the neighbors will love it. You might not want to though.
