Guys,
I'm looking at probably replacing the oil pan in my 89 F250 4x4. Is this something that can be done with the engine in the truck or does it need to be pulled?
Thanks!!
-Dave
I can't say about a new truck like that, but my 78/79 Ford trucks need to have the engine and tranny mounts let loose and the engine lifted a good 5-6 inches (until the tranny is against the floor/tunnel with a 3" body lift) with an engine lift to get the pan off. I have rear sump pans, you have to get the front to clear the main bearing caps that stick down to be able to slide the pan straight back, the cross member keeps me from lowering the pan....the engine must go up to get the room.
No, the problem is the crossmember. The pan will not clear the pump. You may be able to unbolt the mounts and raise it enough to clear. I have done this and honestly I wish I had just pulled the damn motor.
