I have a 2002 ranger 4.0. The check engine light is on. It came on because of the govner. I have had it to the shop and had it reset but is there a way I can do this myself? It's an automatic. When i get on the highway,if i'm really on it, it seems to shift late and the check engine light comes on then. any help?

hi.. we'll i'm sorta new here, but i was told that if you have (or go out and buy) an obd ii scanner some of them will allow you to reset codes. also i was told that if you disconnect the battery for a few minutes this would reset the computer and hence the engine light, though i'm not sure what else would be reset in the process besides your radio clock, haha.. to me if you reset the light like this however, w/o fixing the problem, the engine light would just come right back on if the problem is still there, so i'm not sure how much of a help it is to do this... as far as the real reason behind your problem sorry i couldn't be more help in that department... good luck!
