Red face Things I've noticed. (long)

I have owned Broncos for many years, which many of you know were based off the F-150, and recently sold my last Bronc for my new F-150. Below is my list of observations and things that I’ve found to be annoying and would like to remedy if possible.

Auto lights - I like em and all, but I almost have to turn the lights on myself because the auto lights don’t turn on till it’s almost too dark.

Tailgate handle - Every time I open my tailgate I feel as if I’m gonna rip this flimsy handle right off. I haft to pull on one side of the handle to get it to open. It also has a habit of locking itself.

Transmission 4r70w - I wouldn’t call it‘s behavior “graceful.” It never seems to know what gear it wants to be in and shifts hard compared to the e4od.

Windows - I love the auto down, but when my windows are moving I hear a grinding noise, like the teeth are landing on top of each other instead of in between. Also anyone know of a gizmo I could get to open the rear sliding window? A crew cab is a long reach.

Engine (Big Section) - Where’s the umph? This is probably all in the gearing but it’s got no take off power, stock for stock the 351 would put it to shame off the line, runs like a champ on the highway though.
Revs high around 5k, again used to the 351.
Has a taping noise when cold, it’s like a lifter tick only heavier… maybe piston slap? This worries me.
Idle is a little rough, not bad but none the less.
RPMs vary greatly when load is applied, such as putting into gear or when the ac clicks on. The 351 was always unfazed by these things

4x4 - Where are the hubs? Upon further inspection I find this little vacuum motor on the diff., this seems more than just a little failure prone, along with the smallest drive shaft I have ever seen.

Cooling - Works good… too good. This thing has a hard time staying warm in 40* weather, am I gonna
freeze when it starts to really get cold?

Trailer wiring - Come on Ford, FINISH THE JOB!

ABS - For awhile when I would turn the ignition on something in the engine compartment would “fart.” It seems to be the ABS pump. Is it normal for it to be so vocal?

Spare tire - I hade a look at it and it looks like the supporting mechanism for it would, if given enough time, completely wear a hole into the tire.

Steering wheal - why is more of it on my hands then on the wheel?

Front end - Likes to “click.”

Seat - likes to “click” as well.

That’s all I can think of at the moment

All and all I like the truck, just wish it acted more like the Bronco.

SCREWY!! Where is your cat from your signature? I went the same route as you and now driving an 02 F150...but I kept my old bronco for the rebuild. Sorry to hear you are having all those probs....I have yet to run into any of those with my F150. I hate to say it but it sounds like you may have missed alot when you checked it out before you bought it. Just the steering wheel probs you mentioned tell me its been through a whole lot more than it make have looked like.

lol, kitty had to go... I wouldn’t call many of these things problems, just differences. The truck performs flawlessly. The windows I had mentioned prior to purchase and received the “ oh that’s normal.” The noise from the engine only happens in cold weather and I bought the truck in the middle of the summer. Everything else is ether a difference or failure in quality, which doesn’t mean it‘s broken.

I’ve been told more than once that I’m overly critical of my trucks

P.s. The steering wheel thing is VERY common from what I understand, my dads truck does the same thing.

I have been told the same thing. But I did manage to be picky enough to find one at a great deal and that runs great with no issues... (knocking on wood), yet. But it is going to be put to the real test next week. Its hunting season and I am going to some pretty rough country this year.

Well, if anything decides to actually break I have a warranty. Good luck hunting.
