There are no EPA estimates on 250s or 350s; the federal government doesn't test trucks that large for gas mileage. My customers had been getting 10-14 with the 2004 V10, and 16-22 with the 2004 6.0. We're hoping that the 3-valve set-up on the V10 will actually get a little better mileage than the old 2-valve design. It certainly shouldn't be any less.
I knew there were no EPA estimates for those engines, just wanted to see if anyone had any hard data on what they were getting or what they had heard. I am in between getting a new 6.0 or the V10. I figured the fuel mileage would be pretty close to the same. Although Diesel fuel here in No. Va is about 20 cents/gal more than regular. Do I pay $4500 more up front for better mileage or a lower price for worse mileage..... ahhh the dilemas of purchasing a new vehicle. Any recommendations??
I went through the same dilemma and decided to go for the diesel. If you get a short bed you can only get a 29 gal tank and with the lower mileage you would not have much range between fuel stops. Pulling a trailer or hauling with the V10 I would think you would be doing good to get 10mpg.
80% of all the new vehicles I sell are Super-Dutys, and 90% of all those Super-Dutys are sold with .................diesels. And it's not because I "push" them; in fact, I sometimes try to talk people OUT of a diesel. But the sales numbers do say a lot.
I looked at the hard numbers- up front cost, depreciation, maint. and resale, then factored in the mileage savings- if I drive it over 70,000 miles then the diesel is a good deal.
Thanks for the help guys. You all have me convinced to go with the diesel. I am now faced with getting a fair price for my current F-250 (gas V8). All dependent on what I sell it for.
thanks again. Will let you know when I order my new one and send pics of it.
