Question Mirage Paint?

Has anyone used Duplicolor Mirage paint. Does it work as advertized? I am thinking of using it to repaint some of the black parts on my truck and was wondering if anyone used it with success.

I did my kids Pinewood Derby cars with it and, yes, it does what it claims. My son almost missed his race because he and his friends kept running outside into the sun to see the colors change. FYI, the effect is better with a coat of clear on top.

i have a 2002 f150 and i painted some of the black parts under the hood with it. soem of the parts were that textured plastic. i just took one of those 3M scuff pads and scuffed it up the used a adhesion promoter. then i painted the parts. the paint is still on the parts and not peeling of failing due to heat from motor. the stuff is pretty good.

I’m thinking about painting the mirrors. The Black plastic has turned a flat chalky color and although thinks like Armor-all work to some degree it doesn’t last. So I’ll give your suggestion a try and use an adhesion promoter then finish up with a few coats of clear-coat. I haven’t seen any trucks on the road in my area with the mirrors painted this way, so maybe it will make my truck a little more unique…until it catches on.

that will look good. lund also makes a bug deflector thats painted with paint like mirage. one of those with the combination of the mirrors would look good. just be sure to prep everything and clean it good before you paint with something acetone or rubbing alcohol. if you have or want to take the time you could spray the adhesion promoter then get a primer that has a flexable additive on that then sand it to get the surface smoothed out so the look of the textured plastic is completly gone. but that is up to you. i am sure either way it should look good.

I used the Mirage paint on the bike I was building. Yes it does what it says. When you apply the clear don't stop in one spot it'll give you blemmish there like the color is always changed from the surrounding paint, my finger cramped up. I also found it to be very durable for a rattle can finish. I dropped the tank a couple times and ended with just scratches except for one spot that chipped and it chipped all the way through the epoxy primer to the metal.

I used it to paint flames on a snowmobile. It worked except for the clear. For whatever reason the rattle can clear tends to get cloudy and requires alot of sanding/buffing. Once you get the clear buffed it looks great!
