Chatter from Engine
2003 Ranger, 4WD, 4.0L, Ext. Cab:
There is a clattering from the engine compartment during acceleration.
The noise does not sound like it is coming from the inside of the
engine, but possibly from a component on the outside of the engine.
Not a squeak, like a belt, but it sounds as though something is hitting
something, like a fan blade. Happens at all speeds, but only on
acceleration. More pronounced when the A/C is on. Any ideas?

Yes, but this will be the second major, third overall, warranty work in within the
first 13 months of ownership. I am beginning to get a bad feeling. I always feel
better knowing generally beforehand what is wrong. I believe it may be a chain
tensioner. But after only 16k miles?
