400m with headers

I just dropped full length headers into my 77 F150 4wd, and now I have to redo the exhaust. This truck will primarily be used as an off-road toy. I am trying to decide how to route the new exhaust, and where to have the pipes dump out. I was thinking of turning them out in front of the rear tires. Has anyone had a good or bad experience with one style or another? The truck will probably just run glasspacks with no cats, as we don't have emissions inspections in NC.

well, its cheaper to stop them in front of the rear tires, less pipe to buy! I think it looks good that way if you do it 'lightning style'

It will look good but you run the risk of pinching them, you would be better with dumps or pipe it back to the rear bumper but put them up behind the bumper with turndowns so they are barly seen. Sorry, I'm really tired and can't think of a better way to word this.

I assume by "lightning style", you mean punching them out through the sheet metal in the front of the bed. I was thinking about doing that. Autozone sells a set of fairly cheap dress-up rings for putting exhaust through the body. Is there any secrets to making it go easier? I also like the idea of hiding the pipes behind the rear bumper, but I know that it (the bumper) will probably be changed soon, so I don't want to make my life harder down the road.
