I have a 88 bronco ll 4x4,5 speed,a/c,pw, etc 150,000 miles. The trouble I am having is the pickup coils. Last year the first one failed so I replaced it and the modual.then 8 months later #2 whent out. Two weeks later #3. that was about 3 months ago and this one is working fine so fare. But I worryed that the present one may go out. Anyone out there have any idea what could cause this so if it happens a 4th time I would have something to look for.
It's now been over 6 months sent I had a pick up coil go out. I think I just got a couple bad parts from the parts store. Just my luck. Thats the last time I buy aftermarket pick up coils . If you have a pick up coil go out on your truck, your better off buying the parts from the ford dealer. And I hate to buy anything from the dealer.
Greg,
I agree with Greg R. It's probably best to go with Motorcraft when replacing ignition parts. My '89 Bronco II with approx. 150,000 miles began running rough, especially when the engine heated up. I replaced the module with an aftermarket unit. Now with 174,000, I had to do it again. This time with Ford parts. I've been told that there is a difference in the quality, and because this is not the easiest job due to space limitations, If I can avoid having to do it again it'll be worth it.
