Cut the duct?

Ok I will try to explain this and maybe someone will know what I am talking about.

Where the air duct comes off the air box (where the filter is)it ends up near the grille through the radiator support on the drivers side.It has a curve before the duct ends pointed toward the drivers headlight so air cannot go straight in.

My question is could I cut it flush and flat with the radiator support so the motor would almost have a ram air effect at higher speeds?I could put a screen over it so no bugs, small stones or such could get into the air duct.I figured it was just a decent way to get a little more airflow going.Would it be too much air?

Ram air as you are talking about will not take effect until well over 100 mph

I cut that piece off mine when I got the truck... It didn't seem to make any noticable difference......none. It might work over 100mph like wickymustang said but mine shuts down at about 96... really no need to go any faster than that anyways but it sux knowing that my top speed is 96.....
