OK, I'm replacing my front suspension, new shocks and coils (thanks to Bossind) and when I was under the truck today spraying everything down with liquid wrench I noticed that on the front shock (quad shocks) it looks like there is a built in bolt.. I was planning on replacing all hardware, but is this gonna stay there unless drilled out?? Second question; is grade 8 hardware sufficient for this??? Are they special bolts that I need to buy from Ford?? Just checking to make sure. Thanks.
Cutting it off should work fine. Tack welding is a good idea, although I just cut mine, drilled it out and threaded the bolt thru. Washers on both sides. Rock solid after many thousands of miles. Good luck.
Going to buy my new shocks tomorrow... Monroe Gas Magnums is what I'm told is good... and its in my price range. So I will let you know probably after the weekend.
Good on ya. Monroes are good. Get them somplace that offers a lifetime warranty on them. I recently exchanged mine at no charge for the first time. The guys at the store were impressed. They said nobody ever comes in to exchange on the warranty. Even a good set of shocks usually only perform properly for around 40K miles.
