does anyone have a good link or website that shows in good detail how to change the fuel pump for an 02 7.3. also when you change it do you have to bleed the system of air?
1. Disconnect the batteries.
2. Drain the filter bowl to relieve the pressure.
3. Disconnect electrical leads from pump (5/16", and 3/8" nuts)
4. Disconnect both fuel lines using cheap plastic disconnect tool from any parts store. I used a pair of vise grips and a leather chaff pad to clamp off the inlet line.
5. Remove three 13mm nuts holding the pump mount bracket to the frame, and remove the mount from the truck.
6. Loosen the pinch mount with a 9/32" socket and remove the pump from the mount.
The new pump should come with the pressure line adapter and o-ring, hardware for the leads, and the isolation sleeve, so just put the new pump together and reverse the removal procedures. The whole thing takes maybe 30-40 minutes.
While you're at it, you might want to eliminate the fuel line with the quick-connect and replace it with some 5/16" fuel hose and clamps. If you haven't already done the in-tank and pre-pump mods, this will help to keep air from being sucked into the fuel pump by this connection.
