Hey guys, I have an '89 Bronco, and as some of u guys know, it rocks!
But I've run into a problem. I love this thing, but the gas is eating me up. I found a '03, mustang Cobra that this guy is asking 25,000. It blue books for 30,000. I fiqured out that I can afford it, if I pay off all my other debt. I'm only in about 4 grand in debt. Maybe just a little more. But anyways, my plan is to try to get a loan, for the car worth, not the selling price, but if i can't I might have to sell the Bronco, but even then, I don't think it would be in time.
But here's where I need the feedback. What do u guys think this is worth?
'89 Bronco 351W with 11,000 miles on a rebuilt motor, blue-printed and balenced, lightning pistons on stock forged rods on a ground & polished .10 over crank, timing gears, custom cam, BBK throttle body, soon to have a edlebrock upper and lower intake, throttle body spacer(not stock). 9mm wires with plat plugs, Headmen full lenth headers with custom true dual side pipes. ABout 4,000 miles on a fully rebuilt c6 with diesel gears, and upgraded plates, mild shift kit, rv torque converter. 33" superswampers. New A/C componets, including compressor. Nice sound system with 12" subs and a 1600 watt amp. No rust, clean body and interoir. 3 very minor dents.
I agree. It may be really tough to get $5K for it, even with the souped-up motor and stuff. Ballpark is around $3500-$4000. Ebay is a good idea, or think about a consignment lot and the Auto Trader mag/internet site.
I agree with the estimates. Extras like a hot rod engine and sound system will not get you any extra money. That's just the way it is. Those are things that you do for your personal enjoyment if you plan on keeping the truck, but they are not investments. You never get that money back when you sell. So you may as well pull the stereo and stick a cheapie in there so it has a radio, you can buy cd decks for $49 these days. Then sell the stereo seperatly on eBay as well and you will gross more money that way. Ssplit the components up as much as you can -sell the amp seperately, the head unit, etc. You will get the most money that way towards the Cobra.
one more thing, while you can get good MPG from that Cobra... you probably won't. plus, the payment each month will far offset the extra gas for your truck. Don't get me wrong, the '03 Cobra is a sweet car. I've owned 2 Cobras in my time, and I still have friends in the SVTOA that have newer models. A friend of mine gets about 12 MPG in the city and 16MPG on the highway in his stock '03 convertible. Of course, he drives the hell out of it. Also, remember that 25k might be too much for that car. The same friend I mentioned above bought his '03 brand new about 6 months ago and paid $31k for it with a LOT of add-ons. The nature of those cars is such that unless you know the previous owner, you'd better have a *good* mechanic look it over first. 400+HP going through an IRS... asking for trouble.
no '05 cobra. just the GT and the v6. The Cobra is a maybe for '06. Word is that Ford will be closing the SVT division and going back to the Shelby name for it's elite cars and trucks. Nothing solid there, yet... but I know that there's already at least one new Ford concept car wearing a Shelby badge.
something about that DOHC v8 though. My last Cobra ('97) had the 4.6 N.A. DOHC... even at only 305hp it was a blast to drive. sooooo smooth. The new GTs are a 3-valve engine, but still SOHC... I wonder if the feel has changed any since the last iteration? I wasn't very impressed with the 4.6 SOHC they've had so far.
Now... The Navigator engine is 5.4 DOHC (same basic setup as the 2000 Cobra R) and supposedly the lightning intake / SC can be made to fit. I wonder what that bad boy engine would feel like in my Bronco?
Well, If I can work it right, I can get the Cobra, and Keep the Bronco
I made a chart to help me out, what do u guys think
BTW, the plan is to get a 30,000 loan, buy the car for 25,000 5 grand under blue book with a few mods, then the other 5 grand pays the sales tax, 1 credit card, and 1 loan, saving $250 extra.
Top is monthly paycheck
then it goes down to whats left
