Just got the engine (351m) back together after a stuck valve and bent push rod and I get a knock under load. Oil presure is fine, slight pinging. Could the timing couse a knock.
Timing will cause pinging, but a true knock is an indication of a mechanical problem like a bearing. Try to pinpoint the location of the knock (high or low) to determine the probable cause.
How is your oil pressure. Low oil pressure would point to a main.
If you disconnect one spark plug at a time, and find a cylinder where the knock goes away. Then it is the rod bearing for that cylinder. You could drop the pan and replace that rod bearing or all of them, if you don't want to do a complete rebuild.
