I have a question.
I want to get an air compressor that is going to be big enough to run an air chisel, ratchet, impact wrench, and paint gun.
I do not have a garage, and as I live in a rented house I do not foresee getting one. I do NOT want to have to haul a large compressor up and down the stairs to the basement, so I was wondering about the feasibility of installing the compressor in the basement, and running the line upstairs when needed.
Is this a reasonable idea? And if so, what things should I keep in mind regarding the installation?
If you can handle the noise. If you are planning a hard air line make sure you use copper or if you ony want to use it once in a while you can use air hose. Just remember that the further you go, the less air you get out of the end unless you increase the ID of the hose. I think I would look into building a small shed outside just big enough to put the compressor in. Good luck
If there are other humans living with you, they will quite likely resent the noise. The cheap "oilless" compressors are especially loud. You WILL forget to shut it off someday, and it WILL switch on at 3:00AM, much to everyone's distress. My fix for this was to install the compressor with a time switch so that it cannot switch on during hours that you set. INTERMATIC makes a line of these switches.
