"Distributor Modulator Ambient Switch" ---- what in the world is that, and what does it do? Retard your spark when it is hot/cold? Talk of retards - - -
Thanks, I think. Your Google search (plus the one I did) did not turn up any information that jumped out at you - if there is an explanation in that mess I did not see it.
You remind me of the blue-haired old lady that attempted to teach me English back in the 50's - any question about a word was answered "look it up in the dictionary!"
Guess I will have to go through life not knowing what a "Distributor Modulator Ambient Switch" does.
Distributor Modulator Ambient Switch??? What the?? Mil1on, I as well did not see anything that jumped out at me with your google link. I would suspect that this switch is supposed to advance or retard the timing depending upon the temperature outside? I have yet to come across a switch like this, is it something that was used in certain mountainess area's of the world or something?
I just replaced them on my truck today. Now I have a dome light that
works when you open the door. I was getting use to turning the headlight
switch when I need the light.
The question was from greenhighboy-- CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT THE SMALL ELECTRICAL UNIT IS, IN THE FORWARD JAM OF THE DRIVER DOOR ON MY 72 F-100??? IT CARRYS A Ford part NUMBER..D2AF-12A164-B4..ITS GOT TWO WIRES COMING OUT THE BACK...BRN W/ORNG, AND RED W/YELLOW. ITS ABOUT 3/4 IN. ROUND WITH TWO EARS FOR THE ATTACH screwS, AND IS BESIDE THE DOME LIGHT, DOOR SWITCH.
The answer was from Tom C. ---- That is a temperature senson for the emission control system. Look on the passenger side firewall and there is/was as solenoid with 2 vacuum lines and a wire harness plug. There is as switch on the transmission to sense high gear. The advance vacuum is cut off above a certain outside temp. when the transmission is in the lower gears.

That blue-haired English teacher would be proud of me!!!!
