well i finally got my moter back together and went to take her for a ride to the gas station and what a ride. all the way thru first all she does is spin the tires when i hit second about the house next door to mine im running about 40 so i dont guess its to bad but i leave these big black marks down the road. now i have already moved the bed back 1 hole and airbagged the rear but i dont know what else to do to help with my traction any ideas would be greatly apprectied.
weight bias front to rear in a pickup is way, way, off. probably something like 70%, or 75% front bias, that dont leave a whole lot over the rear end. setting the motor back, moving the battery to the rear, and fiberglass/ lightened front sheetmetal will help. shortbeds are a little better than long beds, and there are suspension systems that will help also.
only other thing is add some weight to the rear, not realy advisable.
well my motor is already like a half inch from the firewall and ive got a full bed of junk that i need to clean out including the old motor im running 295/50/15 out back with a 3:25 gear. i topped out before i rebuilt my motor at about 175 180 somewhere in there. my speedo doesnt work so i go by my tach. it used to get great traction and all i did was put a set of e7te heads in place of a set of d80e heads on a 307 with a comp cams 268h cam and a e3ze intake the bottom end only has about 40000 on it so i figured it was all still good. i really like the way she runs just cant get enough traction. i was thinking about a 3 link in the rear but it seemed like alot of work to me.
well my motor is a fred jones 307 with a comp cams 268h a set of fully ported 37te heads with a e3ze intake with a holly 680 vac sec. march underdrive pulleys off of a 87 mustang with only the water pump and altenator running off the crank. now for the tranny i used was a 3 speed with manual overdrive toploader out of a 85 f150. i know for a fact that it will run 130 with 16000lbs behind it. so i guess its pretty stout considering its a small block. i was thinking about putting a weiland 6-71 with dual carbs but i think that it will be just a little too much.

I hate to be a killjoy, but nothing about the 67-72 F100 suspension, brakes or body aerodynamics is designed for speeds that like and you're really taking your life in your hands, not to mention anyone like me that you happen to pass.....

I immediately passed that off as "new math" or something like that since I couldn't imagine anything pushing an F100 (with the drag coefficient of a barn door) at that speed. But hey, I'm just an old fart so what do I know?
