Hi Gang! I recently purchased a 1953 f100. According to the name plate on the glove box the truck originally came with a 6 cylinder but an eight has been installed. I was told it was a 292, but I would like to make sure I know what I'm working on. Can someone tell me how to positively identift the engine in my "new" truck? Thanks. You guys must get tired of newbee dumb questions.
I would think it is a 215 , I dont think the 223 came out until 55. The 53 215 was rated at 101 hp.
You will have to find some numbers as the y engines started at 239 in 54.
If your valve covers are held in place by 2 nuts, toward the ends and centered, it is probably a Y. Then get numbers and go to www.ford-y-block.com for your positive identification.
272's have the letters ECG next to the distributor. Some 292's have the letters EDB next to the distributor. 312's have the string of characters ECZ 6015 C above the oil filter.
I don't mind the questions as long as you're willing to do some of the research yourself.
I could not find the engine code "EOZ" on John's Y-block web page. Do you guys know what it means? These letters are right above the oil filter, right where you said they would be.
