My '99 F250 has developed a high frequency "rumble" in the left front wheel. I can only really hear/feel it at 30 MPH and down. It seems to start when I hit a bump with that wheel, and sometimes stops when hitting another bump, but will always stop when the truck slows to near stop. At 2-3 MPH, it sounds like I hear a solonoid click at the wheel and the rumble stops.
I jacked it up and checked for loose bearings and even switched locking hubs side to side. The rumble is still in the left side.
Could this be a bad wire trying to make the hub on that side pull in? I don't know anything about the automatic/manual hubs as the only ones I have worked on were the manual ones on an old Bronco.
The auto hubs on your truck are vacuum accuated - it shouldnt lock in and out on its own. How many miles are on the truck? Could be ball joints. Or a wheel bearing.
That, my friend, I cant answer. I only know this because my auto lockers werent working, heard they werre vac acc, so I checked my hub assembly, and, lo and behold, the vac hose was dangling there for all to see. Hooked 'er back up and I'm in business. Are you running larger than stock tires?
295-75-16's They are 2" taller than stock, but have been on the truck for 30,000 miles now. I really don't know if the hub is doing something wierd or not, it is my best guess so far. The bearing were done only 5,000 miles ago, so I would be surprised if it was a bearing, but stranger things have happened. I am hoping someone here on the forum has had this problem before and can point me in the right direction.
