My E brake dosnt work, i went to adjust the metal splitter so that it was pulling on the cables harder, but i found that the cable to the right wheel is stuck like 3/4ths the way out. This caused the bracket to go sideways and not pull the other cable. How can i free up the other cable? should i spray some wd 40 in the cable? would this do any harm to my rear drums?
You really should remove both rear wheels and drums, then disassemble the parking brake from the cable on both sides. You can do anything you want to with it on the work bench to get them unfrozen but I would not spray any silicone or petrochemical into the drum/shoe area of the rear brakes.
I would replace the right parking brake cable. Do you use it all the time? If not maybe just cut it, unless it is a manual tranny then for sure replace it.
replace them both. $50 dollars tops. everytime you fix one, the other one breaks within a month. And on my truck, the short cable always froze up first.. go figure.
Its a manual, so i cant leave it running if want it to warm up, thats mainly why im trying to get them fixed. The cables both have little tags that say :Ford service parts: on them, so i figure they had to have been replaced not too long ago. If i take the rear wheel off, what else do i need to do to get the cable to move, I'v never done something like this with drum brakes
