Zero Rust Question

"For maximum protection, use black or red oxide as a base coat. For marine or corrosive environments, apply two coats of black or red oxide (total 5 to 6 mil dry film thickness) before top coating."

This is a quote from Zero Rust's website. The black or red oxide is a color not a product. So what difference does it make?

The black makes the top coat of color darker.

ZR protects best with 2 coats. The actual reason for using two different colors is to make sure you have good coverage. When the first color is covered up, you know you have applied two coats.

Personally, I just use one color, making sure I use good application techniques.

That is what I thought. With three coats I should have almost 9mil of coverage. Doing small sections of frame at a time what is the recommended overlap procedure? Sand the shine off with a 6" overlap or ??????????????

There are several different reducers you can use. I use lacquer thinner, which is one of their recommendations. For a complete list of the recommended reducers you can go to the ZR web site.
