I have a 1995 Ford F-150 Eddie Bauer edition regular cab. I recently upgraded my factory door speakers with a set of Pioneer TS-A1680R 6.5 inch 4 ways. Sounds so much better. So I deceided to replace the rear ones. Have not received them yet but I should sometime next week. I ordered a set of PIONEER TS-A6880R 6 X 8 inch 4 ways for the rear. Anything else I should upgrade or add?
Thanks,
David
The headunit would be a good change, and if you have the money and patience and time, wiring could be upgraded to larger guage, but that's not necessary unless you're wanting the whole neighborhood to hear you. I would recommend a little bass for you. Music sounds much fuller and rich if you can hear all the notes, so maybe a 10-12" sub would work out, with a little amp, unless you're into the hip-hop scene.
I am waiting for delivery of my 2005 F-250. I ordered the 6 disc in-dash as I had it in my Lincoln LS, and it was nice to load up all discs as you drive.
My question is about a stereo up-grade. I want to keep the stock head unit, and up grade the speakers. When I talk to any stereo store, they want me to change the head unit too. What happens if I put an amp between the stock head unit, and new speakers?
What is going to happen is, you probably won't be happy with it if you crank it up. The stock HU turns down bass when the volume goes up because it is thinking it has stock speakers. Also the quality isn't going to be great because the stock HU isn't going to have RCA outputs, which is going to force you to splice wires from HU to amp, with speaker line in inputs, and the quality of the sound isn't going to be that great.
