Brake noise
I have an 1987 F150 with front disks and 2 wheel antilock. The brakes were pretty good till recently they started making noise that sounds like they are grinding metal to metal. However, when I looked, the pads aren't too bad. Also the pedal pushes back hard just at it stops. Any suggestions?

If you're getting grinding noise when you use the brakes, it almost has to be the pads. Make sure you check both the inner and outer pads on both wheels.
The pedal pushing back sounds like a bad booster.

Sometimes you'll get a high concentration of metal in one area in metallic pads or you may have picked up some fine gravel between the pad and rotor try removing the pads sanding them a bit scuffing up the rotors and putting it back together. I'm assuming you are correct in stating you have plenty of front brake pad (inner and outter) and rear shoe material.
