Got up the other morning to tow a car to the junk yard and noticed that my RABS warning light was on, slammed the brakes a few times and the brakes seemed ok(don't know if RABS was working). so I towed the car anyhow. When I first start up the light comes on, goes off and all is well. About 10-15 seconds after it went out it comes back on and stays on till I shutsown then when starting up it repeats. I checked for codes and only have Problems in Thermactor air control system and Operator error during dynamic response portion of engine run self test, these have nothing to do with RABS, do they?. How hard is it to pull the RABS sensor and clean and check it out?? and if bad what cost and I looking at to replace it?
Thanks!
As far as accually checking for the codes of the ABS system, I'm not sure.
The sensor is real easy to take out. Probably the easiest part to check and/or replace of the whole ABS system. Mounted on top of the rear-end housing should be an electrical unit held in place by 1 bolt and bracket. The Tone ring, on the other hand is another story, and probably the hardest. If it's bad then you would have to pull the rear-end completely apart and take the ring gears off the differential. Then there is the hydraulic control valve.
From what I understand of the ABS is when the light comes on like that, then the ABS system isn't working. BUT you will still have your brakes. Kinda like as if there was never any ABS at all
