Three flats this week, plugged two on Wensday. A third today, where a patch was, tire was shot. It is great to drive on a construction site. Well, here is the issue. I put on the firestone spare, have different tires around. I want bigger tires. Can't really afford a lift but want 305's. What brand and where is the best deals.
I'd look into BFG ATs or their MTs. Try Wal Mart for pricing, if not just shop around. BFG has a pretty decient web site with tire info ( actual size, load limits, etc.). I believe they even offer a 2 year recovery service that if you get stuck using their tires they will cover the costs. There is no additional cost to you for this service. You need to read their site for all the info.
Check Wal-Mart and Costco. I was looking for 285/75X16's. Wal-Mart has their "Liberator" tire for $100 each at that size; Costco has the Bridgestone "Revo" for $153 each. Granted, the Revo is a much higher-rated tire, but if price is the main issue, I'd check these two places. Not sure on the 305 size, but I'm sure both carry it since they have 285's.
Ok,

I picked Bridgestone Revos and liked them so much I also put them on my Jeep Cherokee...
I don't think I could have gone much bigger than 285/75R16 on my stock 2001 4x4 Super Duty without rubbing issues... Some guys have gone bigger, but my front tires are really close in a full deflection turn especially if I have any suspension travel.
The 285s fit my stock truck well. I've got a few pics in my gallery of how they look. Lifted trucks don't fit my needs/wants, but the slightly bigger than stock tires do.
You can look at ratings on Tirerack.com and see what people think about the different brands of tires. Lots of good info there to help with your choice. After you pick the tire you want, call around locally and compare prices.
OBTW, don't forget to ask about road hazard since you tend to get a lot of flats.
Always been a BFG AT fan myself but my favorite tire-shop talked me into a set of 10-ply Conti Sportiva AT's on my 1999 F350 4X4. If you are looking for a great 10 ply tire that will stand up to construction sites, heavy towing (25,000lb yacht was last tow) and farm work, these tires rock!
Edmo,
How are the Revos in rain or wet conditions? I am looking for a new "summer" tire that has to hold on slick boat ramps. Thanks, Tom
Wet and dry traction are both better than the original Steeltex tires. I put them on both the Super Duty and my '92 Jeep Cherokee and the Revos have performed well in both applications.
Go to Tirerack.com and look at their ratings vs other tires...
Do you think my wife will squawk if I put some on her VW Jetta?
