what damage can come from using off road diesel in the power stroke other than to the pocketbook if you get caught. Diesel in my area is about 2.10 per gal
No damage at all. It is just dyed red, other then that its perfectly fine. Just dont get caught or youll be facing thousands in fines. Also, they (the governement) are setting up more and more checkpoints to check for farm fuel. I dont know if its wise to risk it or not.
Exactly what he said. Get caught and big trouble.
Here in MN at the St. Fair EVERY diesel that drive throught the gates to drop off animals of exhibits get tested takes FOREVER!!! outside of that I have never been tested and I run an hour into the twin cities every day up and down the freeway.
i live in the sticks and the feds wouldn't waste thier time here where i run it, wouldn't do it while traveling. i can get off road here for 1.29 compared to over 2.00
In NE that tend to check things more regularly if you pull a trailer, but on interstate from KS to CO, KC-DENVER, never been checked. Only thing is, it takes forever to get it out of your system. They put 5 gallons of dye for every 10k gallons of fuel. How much is reg. diesel everyplace else. Its 2.06 here, but 40 miles away its 1.99
Someone told me that they can detect it long after you have used it up by doing a white-glove test on the fuel intake pipe. I don't know....just what I heard.........
i dont know about the white glove thing, but they are wrong when they say nothing will happen. you risk the loss of injectors if you run red constantly. it is not like run one tank and lose all your injectors, but it is hard on injectors for some unknown reason. i have a lot of buddies that run red and thats wut all of them say" i cant ever keep injectors in it" doesn't sound like a coincidence to me. also it has more sulfer in it than road fuel "its called high sulfer" you know what happens to an engine that has well water in the radiator right?? thats caused from sulfer. they still run forever on it, but there is more risk of coolant system roblems. its basically the same thing. they seem to run a little better on red also. but the fuel milege drops a tad. i would go ahead and run it for a few tanks and you may get addicted to it. lol if you feel better runnin clear, go for it, its smart not to run it on trips.
oh, and it dont take long to get it out of your system. i have mixed red with clear in our farm fuel tanks. 50-gals or so with 400 gals of clear and you cant even tell its there, if you run most of it ou8t of your tanks then fill up with clear, it won't be noticeable through the clear hose they use to check it with. i seak from exeprience, not from what i have heards through the grapevine. in fact, i just filled up with red diesel today, man its fun burnin that cheap stuff.---- F@#K uncle sam!!
where can i get the off-road stuff near san antonio? whats are the ups and downs to using it besides the clear? in texas i've never heard of anybody inspecting for it. any performance ups to it?
I never thought they inspected for it around here. They came to one of my jobsites right after I left and tested all three of my excavators trucks. I have never run it but have thought about it. I also thought about installing a bed tank behind my box and piping it like a dual tank, then rerouting the backflow into it. Keep reg. in the normal tank. But I am not that anxious to risk the hefty fines.
I don't know about where you all live but around here its all the same fuel. I've been with a buddy of mine that hauls diesel fuel. Unloads the same diesel into both off road and on road tanks and I been there when he has to add the dye. So not to argue but at least where I live its all the same.
If I could get red locally I'd run it! My converters already punched( illegal), I run a non-commercial plate but make money with it on occasion(also illegal), I don't pay sales tax on my online out of state purchases(also illegal) and I'll never register my ATV's with the Great State of Ohio (also illegal).
But I am a law abiding descent model citizen who pays;
Income tax, property tax, rental income and property tax, state tax's on all of above, etc.
In my short 45 years on earth, I've seen taxes added and increased at astounding rates. My forefathers payed less, had more opportunity and suffered terribly to defend our country.
We need to follow their footsteps and recreate a modern "Boston Tea Party".
Thanks, Tony D.

It is fun burnin the red stuff, no doubt. But I am speaking from severel experiences that they can tell. My mom is former KHP-DOT. She would get us straws so we could experiment with blending, and if they don't pay attention to it, yes, you can get by with blended, but if they look, or put it in the glass container to ship it off to a lab to detect dye(yes they do it) you will be cought. We have accidently put it in our big trucks on occassion and you can run 1k gallons through and still have traces of red. Is what is best though, is I know OK, and NE does it, but they have a permit for clear farm-off road fuel. Now that is great, glad we farm in NE.
