Fuel Filter...

Hey guys, luv the site! Always find what I need to literally save me $$$
I need to change my fuel filter 1998 F150 4x4, 4.6L V8 Triton. I purchased the filter and disconnect tool but I can't seem to get the tool to lock into the fuel line comming from the engine. I am able to get the tool to 'lock in' on the line coming from the fuel tank and I am afraid I will break something...
Any advice on how to get this darn thing off? Dealership told quoted me $168 so I decided to do it myself and that new filter has just been sitting in my garage!

Thanks for the advice!

it is a sin what the dealer quoted you.

Just remove the filter from the bracket, and shove the tool in. When it is all the way in, then pull the line apart from the filter itself. You might need a little pb blaster spray on there to make it easier, but its a two minute job. Just pull it.

Make sure you notice the flow arrow on your new filter so that you install it the right way.

I just did a filter on my f150, it seemed to me too like it didn't want to go in easy, I finally got a screw drive and gave it some persuasion and it the tool slipped in and the line pulled off. I think you prolly just need to be a little more persuasive with it.

personally i like to leave the filter in the bracket holder until the lines are disconnected. i find that easier than trying to hold the filter still while i am disengaging the ford "e-z change" fuel filter. And when the bracket is holding the filter still, you're less likely to bend or crimp a fuel line. Just my 2 cents--everyone has their favorite method.

first change is the hardest until you get the hang of it. I like to stick the tool into the line and tug the line towards the filter while i a pushing the opposite direction wiht the tool. Wear safety glasses eye protection.

suggest you first depressuirze the fuel system by pushing in the shraeder (spelling?) valve. Put a rag under neath it and push a small screw driver into the valve head. The valve looks like a bycicle tire valve and is in the passenger side of the engine about 2 spark plugs from the firewall.
before i change fuel filter, i always unhook the negative battery terminal just to be on the extra safe side.
