Runs rough when plugged in

Here is the deal: There have been a few nights already when the temps got down to the low 30s and one night into the upper 20s. I decided to plug in the 6.0. I have a heavy duty (Super Duty? ) timer which turns it on about 3-3.5 hrs before I start it. My truck has started quite nicely and continues to do so, but after plugging it in, after I start it, sounds a little bit lumpier and louder as well. I still have not determined if it has pilot injection or not but if it did before, it goes away after I plug in the block heater. I am pretty sure the block heater is working cuz the glow plug light goes off in less than half the time when plugged in.

I don't think it runs as rough as a lot of guys' trucks who posted about cold starting and stuff, just a little rougher. It smooths out just fine as soon as I start driving. For that matter it smooths out after idling the 5-10 minutes I give it in the morning.

I am not saying the truck is defective, just wondering if others have experienced the same after plugging in.

Thanks,

Big

I can't say I have, I don't really notice any difference in idle whether I plugged it in or not. Are you already using and additive like Power Service or Stanadyne? It would be worth a try...

Best of Luck,
Corey

No haven't tried them at all. I run a fair amount of fuel through my truck in a week, but I will give them a shot. Can't hurt, right?

Actually, what are they supposed to do? I have read things here and there about additives to keep the fuel from going moldy. Is that what these do? I will look for them and read the bottle (presume bottle), but would like to know what you all think.

Thanks,

big

Stansdyne and Power service are the ones that seem to work on these trucks.

I use the Power Service. The grey bottle is more performance oriented. The white is anti-gel & performance. When I start the vehicle in the morning, the truck puts out very little, if any smoke. Under hard acceleration, very little or no black smoke.
I typically get about 80 gallons of treatment from each 32 oz bottle.
