so i found myself in the bottom of a mudhole, spinning my tires to get out.
then my tires weren't spinning anymore.
long story short, after being pulled for two hours to get home, something is wrong. truck runs great, gears in the tranny and t-case both feel great (by that, i mean you can feel it go into each gear when i shift into each gear) clutch pedal is still up (yet a little spongy feeling to push it in), yet it wont move.
i can shift into every gear WITHOUT pushing down the clutch pedal.
i've talked to a few people, and the majority say synchro's and/or clutch forks. any suggestions or truth to this?
buddy i think i would look for a transmission. i dont know exactly what it could be. maybe a shift fork or mechanism.. maybe a clutch assembly problem. regardless it problably needs to come out one way or another. let us know what you find...
i say check and see if you didnt glaze the clutch lining/material.
the same thing happend to my uncles mustang-'70boss 302. i was lighting the tires up all night and dragracing with it. last run light went green and i stayed.
can you get the truck rolling(someone/thing pushing) and power shift it?
It could also be the transfer case is in neutral or broken...
well i thought that too... when i was gettin towed home i heard a sort of rattle/grind/nasty noise that progressed the faster we went. moved the transfer case shifter a little bit and it stopped. BUT...
would it make sense, then, that i can shift the trans without pushing in the clutch?
Mine does that anyway.(Can go in gear without clutch...When its turned off anyway)Did you check to see if the transfer was in neutral yet? That might be it.I have a story to prove it...
Probally a week or two ago I was tearing up the yard and setting it a blaze with my 88.I got way out back where we stop mowing and I am downshifting at this point.Next thing I know I let out the clutch and hit the gas and the motor revved but I just kept rolling without power.
I get out of the truck after shuting it off and I thought the tranny finally went.Right in the worst part of the yard where things are likly not to be there how you left them or not be there at all when you get back.
I run up to the house and tell my dad I think I finally blew the tranny.I go back to lock it up and leave it to wait for my uncle to get home and tow it back to the yard with his 1990 F350 and I start it one more time.I see it wasnt moving still so I shut it off.My eye just caught a glimpse of the transfer case shifter and it looked out of place.I moved it forward two clicks thinking to myself cant be...
Start it back up...Put it in gear...Let out the clutch...It moved and I just about ***** my pants laughing at myself.Sorry it was long but I had to say it.

goes into gear *while* running, without the clutch pushed in.
Hey man, you'r at Fairly Straight Univ. right? Were you out in those mudholes at the power lines? Anyways, sounds like a clutch issue to me. Nice thing is, those M5's are pretty light and easy to pull out of there. Good luck
well, december and i still havent got it fixed. got a couple updates, tho;
i went out a couple weeks back to see if it'd still start, and it did, so i tried to get it to move... and it did. only like half an inch, but it moved (and only in 4 low). i can't shift when its running now without pushing in the clutch (used to be able to when it first broke). so at this point the tranny is now sitting in the back of the truck waiting for some attention.
think it needs a rebuild? if so, whats a respectable price to have it done? just the tranny itself, not installation; i'll do that.
now that the snow is here i really want my vehicle back... gettin tired of being carted around everywhere.
