which is stonger????

c channel steel or angle iron???

project:

makeing a custom ministock car trailer with tire rack...
looking at these cookie cutter trailer they are all made of angel iron the trailer I bought (basket case) was made of 3 inch c channel (trailer was added on and widen about 3 times) so I was going to make my own custom trailer just for my mini stock (4 cycl race car) car will weight about 2500 pounds with out me.... which would be stronger????
I will be using this trailer for long tows (2 hours or more so I want the best steel for the job.... No I don't want to buy one they are to expensive and not made like I want..

Depends some on the design but channels for the frame rails and crossmembers. There are 2 vertical flanges on a channel. I know you have your heart set on building one but you cant compete with a commercial made one if you have to buy the materials. They mass purchace all of it and production fabricate, they are very competitive in price and engineered to use the least materials and weight. In my area there are several places to buy them, you can find just about any type, but if you have something special,, well, that is a factor. A couple of my neighbors bought them recently, the price was right and they were nice units. One of them was really super and he paid about 1500 for it, came with ramps.

Channel is much stronger, both for bending, and twisting. Ditto on building your own trailer- you can usually buy one cheaper, and use the time for something else. Having said that, I built my own, and machined the "IH" logo into the rear crossmember, and put a 3rd brake light behind it. (I haul my antique tractor on it). If ya want anything special, then build your own.

thanks for the info... I can get a cookie cutter for $700 here but they are to tall (ramps need to be 6 foot long) the car bottom out when loading and unloading..the "car hauling" trailers are 1500 and to big for my mini's needs...
done got axels (NOT MOBILE HOME ONES) I did some figuring the steel will only run about $100 to 200 to build it to suit me.. so custom here I come I thought the c channel would be stronger than angel iron!
