Need a new(used) 'puter

I don't know beans about gigahertz and megahertz. All I want is a machine that will run Windows XP and get me on the internet. We have folks here at work that fix ours when something goes wrong. I asked one of them to show me where the points, condensor, and carb. were one day so I could see why mine wouldn't start and he didn't even recognize the obvious joke! Anyway, one of my bosses sent me to a site called Retrobox.com. Seem to have some good deals on laptops. Anybody got 'sperience with them?

Let's see if you can understand this ?

Remember, the higher the number gets, the larger the operating values

I suggest:

Speed of processor = 1.3 or higher Gig

Ram = (aka, Multi-tasking) at least 256 MB ( 512 Mb is better)

Hard drive = Storage space = at least 20 Gig

Dennis pretty much summed it up as far as system requirements go. As for brand, I know that Dell laptops are fairly rugged. It looked like they had a few of those.

Retrobox looks like a decent site, their prices are certainly pretty good. Remember you'll have to format the drive and load your operating system if you get one of those, or you can pay them to do it. The OS is worth 100 bucks easily.

Take a look at Dell's clearance outlet. Those prices look good, too.

I had to buy one this summer
Bought a Dell refurbished unit.

2.8 GHZ Pentium
512 meg of RAM
60 Gig hard drive
cd burner
dvd burner

I only needed the computer as my printer, monitor and everything else was good.

$600.00 Best deal I have done in a while
edit:

Included one year in home service
software was already loaded.

They do charge $100.00 for shipping so the total was right at $700.00

I do believe it will be hard to beat Dell or Gateway... I have/had both, and find that both are quality machines... They both run specials all the time, and both will set oyu up with financing, and both have excellent tech support, where the person you are talking to actually speaks English.

I'd wait til they were offering free shipping... but not something like a free upgrade.
