i dont do much back country but i can tell you its awsome. i had a little to much oil in had a little romp. just put a 1 qt bottle under it and turn and out comes the oil nice and clean right into the bottle and close it back up. makes like REAL EASY no mess no fuss. you should get the one with the nipple on it also its worth it. i put a hose on it and drain it into a 5 gallon tank and its just great. the back country issue... it alot higher up then the axel and dif. in the front so i would say its all good. its a good 4inch maybe more just guessing up there. you would have to go over somthing and come down extreamly fast that is sharp up and down not like a hill. and its clearence that you are worried about then i would go with the one without the nipple its about an inch shorter. so that would be 1 inch more clearence but i dont think you would need it. hope that helps. Plus you can still run the OIL GUARD
Drill a very small hole on the side of the hex part and one in the handle part, safety wire it.......the hole does not need to be any bigger than .041 with .033 safety wire…if you worried
I'll be installing my valve at the next oil change in about 1000 miles. After looking at the valve and where it will be in relationship to the rest of the truck, I think that it will be very hard for brush or anything to knock the valve open when four wheeling.
But since I have the safety wire pliars and big spool of safety wire from my racing days, I'm always looking for something to safety wire. I safety wired our Christmas wreath to the screen door for example - can't be too careful :-)
I just ordered mine. By the way, do a search on the forums here or a google internet search for a discount code for fumoto. It'll pretty much cover the shipping for the gadget.
The romp term is when you have to much oil in the belly it can cause the truck to shake a little at lights or stop signs. Its kinda like a rough idle in my head. I just drained a little oil from my fumoto maybe 3/4 of a Qt to 1 QT and it went away. Its usualy from having to much oil. having the valve defanantly makes taking some out easy especially for testing, like blackstone reports and stuff.

Funny 900 miles apart and on the same page....we are
You know that comes form our racing and not wanting anything to fall off and pass us .....that we would recognize…as our own part
If you rip the valve out of the pan, chances are you have more to worry about than the oil going away. Like the big rock thats new sitting in the passenger seat. I just installed one in my truck. After looking at it. If you go over it in drive you'll be ok. Backing up is where you can get in trouble.
I have one and it comes with a snap ring that you put around the groove for the valve handle. I have had truck out in the back country with no problems. I have run over small mesquite bushes and cactus. As lasharoo says, you will tear up a whole lot of stuff before you tear the Fumoto out of the pan.

I don't know. Mine came with one. I have the one with a nipple for putting on a drain hose. Maybe it came with the snap ring to go over the hose on the nipple. I works perfect as a safety ring for to hold the lever into the safety lock position. It would be worth the trip to the parts store for the snap ring if it didn't come with one.
well, since no one is having a problem, here's a potential one...
anyone think that a service shop/dealer would ever remove it when in for service? Our expedition barfed on vacation a few years back, and it went to the dealer who had to drain the oil during the repair. I wonder if the tech would have kept the valve. after all, we were a long way from home & wouldn't have known until the next oil change.
That's why I bought the valve, I don't take it in for routine service. If I had to take it in for service where they were going to drain the oil (serious service), I would mention to make sure the fumoto valve and how I would expect to see it when I picked up the truck.
