Question What to look for?

Tomorow I'm going to go and look at a used engine for my truck. I need some help. What are some good/bad things that I should look for. I'm not too worried about it because it comes from my brother's, best friends, brother, but none the less I was just looking to find out about a few things that I should look for. Thanks for any help.

Call me silly, but I'd go through any used engine and rebuild it before I put it in anyway. Just make sure there are no holes in the block that don't belong there.

I guess unless the scrappy can guarantee you it was low miles and a runner when he got it, and puts it in writing. (fantasyland maybe)

Cloverdale Huh?

I would look for Rust.
I got screwed by a guy in Surrey in 1991.
He advertised a 429 that was completely rebuilt with 25,000Km on it.

I took him at his word (it looked fine on the outside) & got screwed for $500.

That engine had rusted cylinder wall, pistons.

Had a cylinder head been removed I would have said no .

Be very careful in humid climates.

A jagged hole in the pan is not good.

I'm not to woried about it. It's an '85 2.8L, with 137kms. Like I said before, my brother knows the guy and I trust him. He also works at a garage.
