Yes, way different!
Ford senders up to '86 read 10 ohms full, 73 ohms empty.
Senders from '87 and beyond read 158 ohms full, 16 ohms empty.
In other words the '87 and newer resistance range is different plus it reads backwards, don't see a way to make it work.
