stereo instalation

i just bought a new alpine cd player 4 speakers an amp and a sub for my 96 explorer xlt
i bought the wiring harness for all the wiring to be done
when i wire it all up as per the directions everything works but there is no sound
they listed 3 different wiring harnesses for the ford explorere
im thinking i have the wrong one
i have an xlt with the rear stereo controls
is there something special about this aplication that you cannot just hook up the power and speaker wires
im thinking you might need a jumper to deactivate the rear controls
im lost at this point

If you have a Best Buy in near you, stop by and talk to the guys in the shop. They're usually pretty good about answering questions like that, even if you didn't get it from them.

I am not sure about your 96 but if you have the stock sub in the rear passenger kickpanel then you probally have one, if not two different Amps powering your OEM system. My 93 EB was a pain in the A__ to install because of this. I pretty much had to gut the whole OEM system to get what I wanted out of it.

maybe this is a dumb question...but are ALL of the harnesses from the factory radio hooked up to an aftermarket harness?
