Still need input on clutch pedal travel on 1989 Ford F259 7.3. Clutch must be depressed all the way to the floor to start or shift, is this a normal thing?

in my truck, i had to take the little thingy off up under the dashboard that pushes the actual master cylinder in. if you look under the dashboard, you will see the clutch pedal on the left. it is welded to a long shaft that goes to the right of the brake pedal. this moves a short lever that it connected to the rod that pushes the master cylinder through the fire wall. there is a nut that holds this "short lever" on. take this nut off and get a really BIG screw driver and stick it up there and get a screwdriver with a square shank on it so you can twist on the screwdriver with a wrench"i used a really big crescant wrench" because it is really tight. do not try to prise on this because all you have to prise on is really flimsy aluminum housing and i broke mine to pieces and had to get a new one" but twist on it real hard till the short lever falls off and turn it one otch closer to the fire wall. and put the nut back on, you may also have to take the master cylinder off and put some washers to shim it up so there is enough room to put the rod on the short lever. i had to put 3 washers on mine. and the nuts were real hard to put back on to hold the clutch master cylinder on. but this will eliminate any free travel in your clutch and you will be able to push the clutch not even half way in and it will shift much easier. as for the start safety switch, i took that little black thingy off and shoved a bolt in it to make it start w'o pushing thew clutch. doing this will make your cruize controll not work, but you can fix this by wiring the 2 wires together that are on this same box. "i had to take that piece of plastic bushing out of the rod that connects to the master cylinder because i did not have enough free play in the clutch pedal. 1/2 inch of lay is plenty before it gets tight, i bet it has about 2-3" now. that it too much. you will love this mod. its great!if it is a 86-or older, there is an adjusting rod that you can adjust a little bit of the play out of it, but the adjuster may be froze up. you'll be surprized at how tight that little lever is put on there.
