I have a 2000 f150 lariet. I am wondering about the wiring harness for a brake controler. Do all the f 150's have the plug under the dash for a brake control? What about the harness to the back? I do not think that the truck came with a tow package as there was no hitch on the truck.
unless it is a fleet truck it should be under the dash on the right hand side of the steering wheel, it is a six prong plug with a rectangle look to it. gray in color.
try along the drivers frame rail around the spare tire area. also try looking directly above the spare tire. if not there you may need to follow the blue wire in the harness under the dash back. i am suprised to hear that it does not have a plug on the rear.
You can buy a new rear harness at your dealer. I think I've posted the numbers before, but I don't have them right now. It might be available in the aftermarket now. In any event, what you do is unplug the old harness at the driver's side frame rail near the spare tire, unlplug the tail light connectors that go into it, remove the old ground, then plug in the new harness, hook up the ground, and mount the 7-way plug. That sounds like a lot, but I had mine in after about half an hour, and that included the brake controller.
You ought to be able to get a pigtail for the under-dash plug pretty easily.
The Ford Part Number for my 1998 F150...I think this is an engineering number but it ought to still be valid:
YL3Z-13A576-GB
If you can't find it in the aftermarket, ther'e your ticket. Otherwise, I can tell you the electric brake wire is run to that point inside that frame rail, and it's dark blue in color, no stripes.
