Thumbs down I need another ignition key!!!!!!!

Anyone know how to get another ignition key for my 2002 Excursion?
The dealer told me that if I do not have 2 keys, I cannot program another one. They said that they have to hook it up to the computer, and of course that cost money.
They said the key is about $25.00, and with the service fee the total will be close to $75.00.
Thats a lot of money for a key, but hate to live with only one copy.
Regards,
Paul Low

You have no other choice ... unless you can locate the prior owner ... which I was able to do AFTER I paid the dealer to program a new key. But the dealer made a mistake, and wound up giving me 2 new cut & programmed keys for the price of one. Now (you guessed it) I have 4 keys!!! The price you quoted is somewhat of a decent price. Go for it.

Only 1 key is the master as far as I know, if you have that key you can reprogram others. I did it on mine with only the one key. If the key you have is not the master then you will need to hook it up to the Ford computer and make it the master.

You can buy 2 PATS key blanks on ebay for $15, that'll lower the price a little bit. I think you're stuck on having the dealer program it though. Search ebay item #7926768117

A good locksmith may be able to help. Most good ones have a code machine and can program the new key at a very reasonable price.

Definetly go with a locksmith.....cheaper. Thats what I had to do. Look in the yellow pages and they usually advertise that they sell and program PAT keys. I think it stands for "Passive Alarm Theft" or something like that. If you have a remote starter make sure you tell them first. When I purchesed my X the previous owner had installed one that I didn't know about and it caused alot of problems. The remote starter requires that a programed key or the chip be stashed somewhere in the dash near the key reader so that the security feature allows the car to start without a key in the ignition. Who ever installed mine did one heck of a job of hiding the chip, it took the locksmith quite a while to find it once he realized thats why the key wouldn't program.
