Ugh Pt II
I ordered 11" semi finish push rods from Comp Cams about 3 months ago when they told me on their help line they no longer made order to length push rods.
I took them to the angine shop that did the head & block work and they saidy hadn't done it before but it should be fairly easy to cut them to 10.275 OAL and insert the other plug.
After a week I called and he said he had them cut but didn't have any way to press the plugs.
I paid $30 and took my pushrods home, I chamfered the cut end and pressed the plugs in myself. I would have preffered to have them done by a good shop I wasn't having much luck fidning one that wanted to take the work.
It would appear my aim was less than true during pressing and my cut too deep on the chamfer.
I had 6 failures out of 12. 50 percent is a pretty crappy rate of failure. Heh.
Anyway, 2 ends snapped off the rods and 4 mushroomed from where I too large of a chamfer is my guess.
They were Comp Cams 3/8s Magnum RRs with 5/16th ends.
I called Comp today to see if they could make a custom set. Rep said they had what I needed.
$137 lesson learned.
Ouch.
It's been a semi-painful first rebuild.
