Its not exactly a ranger, and not exactly a b-series, but you guys were the closest I could find to my issue.
I have a 74 courier laying around. Its really not all that bad a little pickup. I would like to squeeze some more ***** out of it though. it has the (mazda?) 1760cc(? can't read it real well) engine in it. I doubt that there are any aftermarket parts for this, but I would even entertain an engine swap, as the motor is a bit tired. any suggestions (other than push it off a cliff) would be appreciated.
I put a new (used) engine in my Mazda a few years back. I looked up "Used Engines" in the Yellow Pages and bought one for $300. It came from Japan, had 32k miles, and came ready to install complete with carb, starter, and alt. The water hoses had been cut and were still in place. It dropped right in, ran great and gave me great service.

I always get a kick out of seeing that style compact truck, from any manufacturer, running around. I had a 77 Toyota Pickup that I fantasized about dropping a 351 Windsor into the bed of the truck with a direct link to the differential...man it would be nice to have money. Aside from the new (used) engine...you could try a fuel injecion convesion kit from Holley (if legal in your area), look around to find an aftermarket intake from a different vehicle that might fit yours, and a custom exhaust system is universal.
I had actually thought about trying to track down a turbo 4cyl out of an 80's svt mustang, (I happen to know where there is one in a salvage yard nearby. I'm in california, but being a 74 I can do pretty much whatever. I'm way out in the valley too, so its not like anyone out here cares.
any other fords come with this motor? Or am I looking more into the Mazda side for parts.
Thanks guys. I posted this in the engine swap forum a while back, but all the suggestions I got there ultimately revolved around creative ways to destroy it. I'm glad to see there are at least a couple of people out there with a similar perverse couriosity about these trucks.
