Question Mini Light Bar

I have a mini light bar that I use when I plow. The light bar has some heavy duty magnets that mount to the top of the cab. Does anybody have these and do you puy some kind of insulator between the magnets and cab roof to keep it rusting or scracthing.

Cover the magnets with duct tape. I have done this with lights and license plate holders. Works for me.

You can go to Home Depot and get a can of the rubber stuff that they use to cover tool handles. This is what I use.

Great ideals , I will take them into consideration. I was thinking of something similar but was worried highway speeds and the magnets not holding at full power with an insulator between the mags/roof

If you use tape on the magnets themselves, rather than on the roof, the magnets can and will still pick up anything they come in contact with that's magnetic (metal shavings, small rocks, etc.). Every time you put it on you will scratch the paint. Stop by a body shop and see if you can get some of the clear tape they use as a rocker panel protectant. Put that on the roof and forget about it.

I do the duct tape thing and I have never had it fall off. I use mine truck for racetrack incident response. When responding, I may top 80 and I never had an issue with the light falling off.

I am also careful not to let debris get on the magnets/tape. Duct tape is soft enough that small shavings press into the tape, not scratch the roof.

Someday when I sell my old '73, I am going to get a back-rack and mount it permanently. Till then the duct tape should work fine...

I thought about a back rack and permanently mounting the light. But when pushing snow and the light coming into contact with a branch or something else would break the mini strobe. I think I stay with the magnets that might give way before breaking the light.
