I have a 1990 Bronco II and am wondering if having the wrong ECM is the reason why my cruise control does not work. The guy I bought it from put a different unit in it that I don't think was calibrated to my specific vehicle and was wondering if this will cause my problem? If not does anybody have any Ideas why it is not working? I am about to start driving a lot of highway miles after I move and working cruise would be nice. Thanx for any info. :7
People who say it can't be done should not interrupt the person doing it.
I do not know much about your cruise control except do not fix it! I say this because if you ever fall a sleep with it on you are in a world of hurt. I speak from experience I fell asleep about five weeks ago and totaled out my wifes 1998 Tarus Wagon. We hit a driveway culvert at 55 miles an hour and then flew about 12 feet before landing. It busted up my wife and hurt my oldest daughter. I was not injured even though i broke the steering wheel in half and crushed the whole steering wheel into the dash. It could have been worse luckily there was no one coming or I would have had a head on collision. If you use the cruise be careful with it!!!
Your cruise control is wired to your ecm, but just barely.
changing the ecm should not have affected the cruise if the new ecm operates the vehicle just fine. The cruise has its own version of a computer it operates off of. On your truck it should be under the dash just on the drivers side of the center hump, and it should be low enough that you can see it without unhooking anything. your problem is most likely not the control box, though. The control box is so simple that there is rarely andy problems with them unless you have had an electrical short.
If you are still having a problem with your cruise you can e-mail me and send me your e-mail add. and I can send you a list of things to check.
have fun, and good luck
