i have a 92 f-150 302 is a chip a good investment i have a K&N intake kit headers bigger y pipes high flow cat 3" cat back. would a chip be good for an application like this and what kind should i get? how much power would I see? i always run 89-90 octane with 10% ethonal. I want to use this kind of gas and NOT premium.
if i get a premium octane chip and run 90 octane gas would that hurt the motor since it is only 1 octane difference? here in nebraska premium is at least 10 cents higher and we get a discount if we run the 90 with ethonal.
but do they make a chip that i can use 90 octane with?
what would a chip for 87 octane do if i ran 90 in it. or is this something that i should just skip. sorry i really dont know a whole lot about chips/turners
It would offer you no additional power running 90 with an 87 octane tune. I think you should skip it if running premium is out of the question, or let us program a tune specifically for 90 octane.
I'm running a 30hp Superchip in my 92' 5.0. It calls for 93 octane but I run 87 with an occasional octane booster like the NOS Offroad formula. It runs great although you dont really notice it until your hooked onto a trailer in overdrive and even then its only really a matter of a few hps and a few more mpg's.
Go to www.superchips.com and Im sure it will help.
The more throttle you give the more power it gives, the less throttle, less power. Superchips programs at all throttle positions, but naturally you won't see as much of a gain at part throttle.
There's no way any chip can be equal all the way around. For instance, at the point in the power where stock power is less so will the gained power be. Where peak stock power is on the rpm band is also where you'll typically see the greatest gains, but it varies by pcm code (Ford has hundreds of pcm codes).
