I've had this problem with my 97 Ranger 4x4 pulling to the left on/off for almost 2 years! Two winters ago I had a front end problem that turned out to be a bad U-joint in the right side knuckle. I drove it throught that winter till I fixed it during the summer.
Before the fix was done, I'd get a buzzing auto locking hub and had to stop, back up to release it. It would pull to the left too. Both problems would come/go.
Even after replacing the U-joint I had buzzing hubs. The problem vanished for months but returned again a few weeks ago. I replaced the auto locking hubs with manual Warns.
Now, at times after a right or left turn, it'll pull to the left! Make another turn and it goes away. I do know that the right axle is moving at times which might have caused the one hub to lock up. How much it's turning or how fast or why is unknown because it didn't rotate while the wheel was turned when on jack stands.
Just wondering if that axle is turning enough through the side gears, pinion gears, etc. to cause a pull to the left. Very strange how it comes and goes!
Interesting! I did a bit of research on radius arms. I do hear a clanging sound which I thought was the right side axle moving but it maybe as I have read the radius arm moving in the bushing. Worn or just possibly loose as it only has 35,000 mi. on it!
