broken leaf spring

just wondering if there is a problem with the f350 leaf springs. i have a 2000 f350 superduty 5.4 auto 4x4 with 35 bfgs and a add a leaf in the front. i was wondering if it could be the tires,or a isolated problem with the leaf springs,or am i going to go through leafs every 50,000 miles thanks Deno

how are the edges on your add a leafs cut. is it a sudden sharp cut or tapered?
did the spring break where your add a leafs start?

Mine were broken when I bought the truck. I hear they break quite often.

sounds like the rear axle is wrapping up, breaking the spring. try traction bars.

To many potholes in the roads is the problem.
You break springs when the truck is empty and the hard slam from the potholes.

Load a ton of gravel in the back and the spring problem will go away. I have never broken a spring with a load on the truck, no matter what size the truck was. I can not say that when I am running empty on the same roads. Had the same results when I used to drive tractor trailer over the road also.

From: Fort. Lauderdale FL,
I have a 2004 F-350 SRW PSD 4x4 and i broke a front leaf sheared it right through. I had an add-a-leaf to raise the front up being its a 350 it sat nose down alot. I added the leaf up front. Took her over a curb and on the way down the cub the weight i guess up front and the sharpness of the added leaf. It actuly snaped right at the spot where the add-a-leaf held the factory leafs up. It had my foot on the brake as i went down to it was not like i floored it over the curb. I would stay away from the add a leafs. Thats just my opinion. I went to the 2.5in leaf pack from procomp. Rides smooth, full progressive leafs and nice big clamps holding those leafs together instead of just the weight of the truck holding the add-a-leaf straight. Sorry its long thought it might help..

if the edge of your add a leaf is sharp and not tapered it will concentrate the stress on one spot on the leaf above it. thats not good and can break a leaf.
tapered is just that, the ends are tapered and cut so they arnt at a 90 degree angle.
