I am wanting to paint the steering wheel in my 1969 F100. I usually use DuPont's Centari. Has anyone ever done this and, if so, with what and what were the results? I don't know if any special preparation of the surface or any special primer is required. At the moment I am running the steering wheel through the dishwasher to clean it. Will appreciate any help.
I have heard that there is a classic steering wheel restoring kit out there. I thought mine was black but was actually blue. The last guy spreyed over the original.
What color do you need to paint it?
I needed to paint mine that "Ford white" original color and used
Epoxy appliance paint - the almond shade. Matched almost perfectly, and I have found the epoxy paints very durable. Take alot of time to prep - fine sanding and feathering the wheel completely. For your first coat when painting with a spray can, just mist the entire surface. This will give your finish coats some 'bite' and will prevent runs. jz
