Idle problems

I have an '85 bronco II 4x4 with a 2.8 engine/carburated. Timing has been set to specs, but i cannot get the carb adjusted right. I get it adjusted, leave it for a few hours, shutdown of course. Go get in it to leave and it wants to shut down when i put in in gear. Earlier i was trying to adjust it, it would either idle to high or to low. Can anyone help?? please

Pull the codes off of it. It sounds like one of your sensor is bad.

A Haynes or chilton manuel has the instrutions to pull the codes, but I think a scanner is only $30.

Idle problems

I bought a code scanner and these are the codes and defmeanings.
*23-Throttle Position Sensor-signal voltage out of self test spec
*31-EGR Valve Position Sensor or Pressure Feedback EGR sensor-signal voltage is below min specs or EGR Vacuum Regulator solenoid circuit problems or EGR valve is not in its normal closed position.
*54-Air Charge Temp sensor or Vane Air Temp sensor-signal voltage is to high
*87-Fuel Pump relay-circuit failure
I changed the egr valve position sensor and still get that code after clearing them. Help!!! If you could also let me know which one may elimnate more than one code, would be appreciated.

The egr valve is probably stuck open from the sounds of it. The air temp sensor is probably bad and the TPS is probably bad to. You also might want to check the wiring for your fuel pump relay
Good luck

check your wires to your solonoid the timing advance wire could be shorting somewhere it should be a red wire with a fusible link ive seen that be the problem a million times.. if that dont work put in a 5.0 and toss the 2.8 ... you'll be happier..
