I just read, with great interest, the tech article by Dennis K. Austin; about disc brake upgrade on a 65-66. This looked like a good place to start, so I went to the local wrecking yard with my list of parts. The head guy said they didn't have a 74, but they had a 75. He looked on his computor, and said the spindles are exactly the same part #. The article specifically called for spindles from a 74. Can anyoune tell me what the difference is, if there is any? The guy is taking them off right now, and said he'd guarantee they are the same. Thanks, Brett
Used 75 donor truck. Believe can swap out and interchange most, if not all, i beam parts between 75 thru 79; whereas, limited to one or two choices between 72 and 74. Also, would not deal w/ donor master cylinder, not sure what you get. Purchased a new one thru NAPA for $45, no exhange required. I also used the same pressure switch for stop lights but had to modify an adapter purchased at Napa. Used same petal setup using 1/2" square alum stock cut about 3" as spacers between firewall and M C bracket. Anyhow, you will be getting number of different suggestions on best method of making the upgrade. Here is another article, did not compared articles to determine if duplicating. http://www.mongrelmotorsports.homest...f100discs.html

Brett, There are several items in that article that I don't agree with and wish Ken would up date it. But that is his call.
There are two ways to put discs on your slick, one is the spindle swap. If your king pins are still good, beating the hello out of them is an aweful lot of work that I think is unnessessary. The 73-79 exchange is a direct bolt up, a lot faster and easier IMHO. If the front end was lined up on the donor it will be lined up on the reciever.
I'm building my dream truck in my mind.....hope to get something like what scamardo's got....
If I can just bolt-up front and rear axles from a 76-79.....add PS and PB (same years).....would that be better than the " 65/6 body on a 76-9 frame" option?
Dan, My 66 F100 has a complete 76 F150 front axle set under it. From radius arm nut to radius arm nut. There are enough cheep donor 73-79 trucks with spent bodys and or engines that can be picked up for a couple-three hundred bucks, that you should be able to find one with good king pins. You and a bud could drop two sets of axles and install one in a half day. You will need some large wrenches a long and big pry bar and a jack. You want to move everything complete including the coils.
After doing this myself twice and helping many others, my next move will be to build a truck on the later chassis. Cab & front clip bolt holes are the same on the chassis from 65 to 79. As in another post this morning, start a plan.
I would like to go to Fla. and learn from a master like FBPete and upgrade my back yard shade tree skills. My problem has always been no place to work and no money.
